Republicans face off in District 13 House primary

Bill Roberts of Jasper, the House District 13 incumbent, will face challenger Connie Cooner Rowe, currently Jasper police chief, in the primary election on June 3, for the seat representing citizens in a sizable portion of Walker County and a small section of western Blount County. Both are Republicans.

With the redistricting plan of 2012, Blount County is now split into four House districts. In this issue of the paper, the two Republican candidates who will meet in the District 13 primary on June 3 are profiled. Incumbents in two districts are unopposed in 2014 elections: David Standridge in District 34 and Randall Shedd in District 13. The incumbent in District 27 chose not to run for re-election. Two candidates there – Democrat Jeff McLaughlin and Republican Will Ainsworth – will square off in the general election on Nov. 4.

Candidates for districts 11, 34, and 27 – including those who are unopposed – will be profiled next week. Candidates in all elections in the county – all 35 of them – will be profiled in the coming weeks.
