Remembering those who paid the ultimate price

Last Friday, a beautiful wreath was placed at the base of the Blount County Veteran’s Memorial to remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Usually there is a large gathering and a speaker. Each name etched on the marker at the courthouse is read aloud during the memorial service. But just like many things, COVID-19 altered this year’s event to just a bare minimum.

Though only three were there to place the red, white, and blue wreath, it did not make the somber event any less meaningful.

Army veteran and member of Operation Grateful Heart Donnie Jackson (green shirt), Oneonta’s American Legion Post 72 Sergeant-at-Arms Robin N. Hackworth (blue shirt), and Blount County Jr. Vice Commander of the DAV Chapter 28 Larry Baker (white shirt) took part in the memorial service.
