Five Blount County softball teams made it out of area tournaments last week to advance to the region tournaments this week.
Four of the five – Appalachian, Hayden, Locust Fork, and Southeastern – will play in the North-Central Regional at Sokol Park in Tuscaloosa while Susan Moore will travel to Troy for the South-Central Regional.
The regional tournaments, which are double-elimintation, will get started Friday and continue through Saturday afternoon. 1A
Appalachian is the Area 12 champion and will face Area 11 runner-up Tharptown (16-10) Friday at 8 a.m. Southeastern, the Area 12 runner-up, will meet Area 11 champion Tharptown (34-12) Friday at 8 a.m.
Appalachian would face either South Lamar (21-17) or Sumiton Christian (27-25) at 11 a.m.
Teams that survive on Friday would come back Saturday morning at 8 o’clock. 3A
Susan Moore (22-5-1) is the Area 7 champion and will meet Area 8 runner-up Saks (28-13-1) Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Troy Sportsplex.
Susan Moore would face either Montevallo (22-16-1) or Central-Coosa in the second round at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday games would begin at 9:30 a.m. 4A
Locust Fork (16-12) is the Area 9 runner-up and the Lady Hornets will meet Area 10 champion Cleburne County (22-10) Friday afternoon at 3:30.
Locust Fork would face either Cherokee County (36- 7) or Crossville Friday evening at 6:30.
Saturday games would begin at 9:30 a.m. 5A
Hayden (36-5-1) is the champion of Area 12, one of the strongest areas of the state. The Lady Wildcats will meet Springville (30-21) Friday evening at 5 o’clock.
Next up is either McAdory (31-17) or Wenonah – in a loser’s game at 6:30 p.m. or a winner’s game at 8 p.m.
Saturday games would start at 11 a.m.
