Redskins win two in area




The Oneonta Redskins improved to 4-4 on the year and, more importantly, 2-0 in 4A Area 10 with a big home win last week.

Neal Wester’s team defeated Locust Fork 59-49 on the road last month to go to 1-0 in the area. Last Friday night, Oneonta pulled away down the stretch to knock off St. Clair County 67-64.

Hot-shooting Trevor Sanders led the Redskins with 20 points, hitting on 6 of 10 shots from the field – including both of his three-point attempts. He added four steals and three assists. Cory Glasscock and Ethan Cassidy each had 10 points for the Redskins.

Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Odenville (Girls) Locust Fork 55, St. Clair County 40

The Hornets built a 24-2 lead after one quarter and then held off the Saints for the big area win.

Locust Fork (6-5, 1-0 in 4A area 10) got 12 points and 11 rebounds from Holly Keyees and 12 points and 7 rebounds from Emily Minck. Hannah Kirkley had 10 points and Brandee Busenlehner added 8 points and 6 boards.

at Susan Moore (Girls) Holly Pond 48, Susan Moore 42

Hannah Holmes had 14 points and Kaylie Bullard had 9 points and 9 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs fell to 8-1 overall, 1-1 in 3A Area 13.

at Oneonta (Boys) Albertville 64, Oneonta 53

The visiting Aggies jumped out to a 31-22 halftime advantage and held on for the win.

Trevor Sanders led the Redskins (3-4) with 11 points. Mark McDuffie and Cory Glasscock had 7 each.

Derek Hayes led the Aggies (7-4) with 11 points while T.J. Vines, Drew Epperson, and Dareon Thompson each had 10.

Friday, Dec. 12 at Brindley Mtn. (Girls) Brindlee Mtn. 51, Susan Moore 41

The Bulldogs hung tough but the home-standing Lions pulled away for the win in the final quarter.

Susan Moore (8-2, 1-2) was led by Hannah Holmes with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Kaylie Bullard had 10 points and 7 rebounds and Amber Killough pulled down 11 rebounds. at Hayden (Girls) Hayden 42, Mortimer Jordan 37

The Wildcats outscored the Blue Devils 15-3 in the final quarter to erase a 34-27 deficit.

Mortimer Jordan (4-3, 0-2 in 5A Area 11) got 13 points from Brianna Nation and 10 from Haylie McClencey.

Hayden (8-1, 2-1) got a great all-around game from Krista Stricklin, who finished with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals. Tiffany Myrick had 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots and Mallory Ray added 7 points.

at Hayden (Boys) Mortimer Jordan 63, Hayden 26

The Blue Devils built a 26-7 halftime lead and cruised to the victory.

Hayden (0-7, 0-3) was led by the 12 points and 7 rebounds of Ben Curry.

Mortimer Jordan (4-3, 1-1) got 13 points from Caesar Bell and 12 from Desmond Brown.
