It is an exciting time for football fans across the county. The AHSAA released new regions for the 2020-2021 football season. With this has come a few changes for some of the teams in Blount County. Most notably, the Locust Fork Hornets drop to 2A to compete with other county teams such as the Cleveland Panthers and Southeastern Mustangs.

The Hayden Wildcats and Oneonta Redskins also experience some major changes as well, both teams facing entirely new opponents from previous years. Hayden faces a completely new schedule barring Corner who remained in their region. Hayden’s head coach Kieth Register is excited for the change as he believes “It’s a region we can compete in. Playing new teams is always good and challenging. We’ve played all these teams at some point in the past and look forward to the 2020-21 season.”

Oneonta also faces a brand new schedule, with the exception of Ashville, as well as facing off with two teams brand new to 4A in Hanceville and Fultondale who moved up from 3A.

To top it all off, get ready for some rivalry next season, as Locust Fork, Cleveland, and Southeastern all compete in 2A Region 6.

Next season is bound to bring many new challenges to the table for teams not only in Blount County, but across the state of Alabama. With this comes a breath of fresh air for many teams as they get to prove themselves against new opponents, creating new rivalries that may last decades and intensifying those that already exist. There will be plenty of excitement to spare as fall rolls back around.
