An evening drive to see the Christmas lights at Palisades Park has become a tradition for many Blount Countians. The Christmas lights will be on display from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31. The park is closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. The array includes about 60 displays of lights, figures, memorials, and Christmas symbols. Admission is free, but donations – used to help operate the park through the year – are accepted gratefully. Not surprisingly, December is the park’s peak use month, with traffic volume averaging about 250 vehicles per day, more or less, from year to year. The next highest vehicle volume occurs during November and April with 130 per day.
In times when residential Christmas displays are perhaps not what they used to be, the Christmas lights at Palisades Park can provide a pleasant trip down nostalgia lane for Christmas memories.
