Blount County Revenue Commissioner Gregg Armstrong and son Charlie enjoy a break during the 2015 Radiothon.

The Blount County Education Foundation (BCEF) will broadcast their 18th annual Radiothon tomorrow (Thursday) from 8 a.m. 5 p.m. on WCRL Radio 95.3 FM/1570 AM, wcrlradio.com, and smart phone app-WCRL.

BCEF is an IRS approved 501(c) 3 nonprofit that provides fundraising and support to the students and teachers of Blount County Schools. Funds raised during the Radiothon are to be put toward classroom grants, learning programs, at-risk resources, academic projects, etc. Since the BCEF’s creation in 1998, the group has raised more than $2.5 million. Their mission is “to promote academic excellence in Blount County Schools.”

Mitchie Neel, BCEF executive director says, “The Blount County community is tremendous in its support of BCEF. We look forward to sharing with the community throughout the Radiothon about the impact our projects are having on our students.”

Robbie McAlpine, president of Alpine Advertising Agency and owner of WCRL Radio, has donated WCRL Studios at Alpine Advertising in Oneonta for nine hours to host the Radiothon. Since he took over the station five years ago, he started giving BCEF additional hours on the air and the extra hours have definitely added to the amounts they have raised each year.

A television component is also available on Otelco Channel 71 and the Radiothon will also be broadcast live on BCEF’s Facebook page. During the broadcast, numerous guests will be in and out, speaking about Blount County Schools and BCEF.
