The 29th annual Blount County pro rodeo comes to town April 9 and April 10 for two 8 p.m. performances. Each year businesses cooperate to bring the rodeo to the Blount County-Oneonta Agribusiness Center at 500 New Street in Oneonta.
The Blount County rodeo draws fans from six surrounding counties and all over north Alabama. The chuck wagon races, chicken chase, and bull riding events usually elicit the most crowd response.
Cowboys and cowgirls from across the U.S. compete nightly for prize money in bronc riding, bull riding, roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. Kids can participate in the ever-popular chicken chase, best dressed cowboy and cowgirl contest, and the gold rush.
This year six chuck wagons will race at top speed until a winner is determined. Fans love the antics of the rodeo clown and the sharp-shooting and roping skills of the specialty act.
