Prisoner dies in Blount County Jail

A convicted child molester has died while in custody at the Blount County Jail.

Edward L. Dunn, age 61 of Oneonta, was found guilty by a Blount County jury last month of first degree sodomy and was awaiting a December sentencing appearance before Judge Steven King.

According to Blount County district attorney Tommy Rountree, Dunn was facing a sentence of from 10 to 99 years.

He was found in his cell by jail personnel on Oct. 20 and CPR was performed. Dunn was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Blount where he later died.

An autopsy was performed by the state department of forensics but foul play was not suspected, according to Blount County Sheriff Danny Morton. As in any death in an Alabama jail, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation will handle the case.
