On Sunday, March 18, children from all over Blount County gathered at the family court annex in Oneonta to honor the winners of the 2012 child abuse prevention poster contest. Over 80 family and friends were there to applaud the young artists and enjoy cake and punch. The event was hosted jointly by the Blount County Children’s Center and District Judge Sherry Burns. Twenty-two winners were chosen from over 200 submissions. Each was artistic and creative, focusing on the theme, “Stop Child Abuse – Tell Somebody.”
This year’s winners, selected by board members of the Blount County Children’s Center, are Kindergarten: Miriam Norman, Hayden (1st); Jalon Boatright, Locust Fork (2nd); Kevin Martinez, Southeastern (3rd). First Grade: Lex Sorenson, Hayden (1st); Abby Burke, Oneonta (2nd); Isabella Croeze, Southeastern (3rd). Second Grade: Bragan Payne, Hayden (1st); Brody Kelley, Hayden (2nd); Chloe Poole, Susan Moore (3rd). Third Grade: Kennedy Massey, Susan Moore (1st); Chloe Jepson, Blountsville (2nd); Nicole Langley, Cleveland (3rd). Fourth Grade: Savana Robertson, Oneonta (1st); Miguel Salinas, Blountsville (2nd); Hallie Fletcher, Locust Fork (3rd). Fifth Grade: Caroline Caffee, Cleveland (1st); Gracie Smith, Hayden (2nd); Josh Webb, Susan Moore (3rd). Sixth Grade: Austin Lee, Southeastern (1st); Kassidy Tindall, Southeastern (2nd); Bailey Boak, Southeastern (3rd). The overall winner for 2012 is Erika Gonzalez, a fourth-grader from Susan Moore. The winning posters will be displayed in the family court annex (beside Hope House) beginning in April, which is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
