Phillip Nathan Pointer, 39, of Crossville, was arrested after he crashed near the intersection of Ala 278 and county road 35 trying to elude police Thursday night, according to The Sand Mountain Reporter. Officials says Pointer was armed with a handgun but immediately dropped the weapon.
Pointer is charged with reckless endangerment and attempting to elude police. Another vehicle involved in the chase stopped on Rocky Branch Road, and the driver fled on foot into a wooded area. He has not been located. The drivers are suspects involved in Marshall County crimes, according to Marshall County deputy Heath Thomas. An accident that occurred on U.S. 231 near Blountsville on Sunday morning resulted in the death of Keith Canter, of Dora, according to reports. State troopers are investigating the accident that involved the SUV Canter was driving and an 18-wheeler. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
Finally, one person was injured and transported to UAB Hospital via ambulance after a two-vehicle accident last Thursday, according to Oneonta assistant fire Chief Brandon Horton. The head-on collision occurred at the intersection of Ala 75 and county road 42. The patient had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to Horton. No other injuries were reported.
