Personnel matters dominate

Oneonta City Board of Education

The Oneonta City Board of Education held its regular meeting on June 24. The Blount Countian was not present, but spoke with superintendent Daniel Smith about the meeting.

The meeting was dominated by personnel issues. Pay raises of 4 percent were approved for Smith and Kathy Loggins, chief school financial officer. The raises became effective July 1.

In other personnel matters, the board accepted the resignations of J.D. Whited as full-time bus driver, and Misty Sandlin, eighth grade English teacher. Kathi Glaze and Joshua D. Whited were hired as full-time and part-time bus drivers, respectively. Baylee Gibbs was hired as an elementary school teacher.

The contracts of Julie Talton, elementary school principal, Leslie Russell, middle school principal, and Joseph Whited, high school principal, were all approved.

The board accepted all of Smith’s recommendations regarding acceptance of 38 non-resident students at the system’s three schools for the coming year and approved the OCS Salary and Supplement Schedules for the 2019/2020 scholastic year.

Child Nutrition Program bids were approved for the 2019/2020 school year: Mayfield Dairy Farms, LLC will provide ice cream; Barber Milk got the milk bid; Forest Wood Farm, Inc. will supply produce; Flowers Baking Company got the nod for bread.
