Pennington runners compete at state meet

HIGH SCHOOL TRACK

The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) state track meet was held earlier this month at Gulf Shores and several athletes and teams from our area competed.

A story two weeks ago included the top finishers from the county with one big mistake – the J.B. Pennington boys and girls track teams were left out of the story.

Pennington senior Della Witt finished fifth in the 3A 400-meter dash and the Lady Tigers’ 4-x-800 relay team finished seventh.

On the boys side, Justin Philyaw was sixth in the 400 meters and Andrew Vaughn was sixth in the 300- meter hurdles.

The Tigers’ 4-x-400 relay team finished fifth and the 4-x-800 team finished eighth.

The Lady Tigers picked up 6 points at the state meet to finish 20th and the boys team finished in 15th place with 11 points.
