Snead, died July 1, 2013, at the residence. Mrs. Compton sang in gospel groups “The Jesus Messengers” and “The Laughlins,” and spent 17 years as a seamstress. She attended Bible Way Church. Parents Joseph Luther and Buna Octavia Wright Laughlin and infant son Curtis Hawkins predeceased her.
Surviving are husband Jerry Compton; sons Mike (Christy) Hawkins, Albertville, Jeff (Amy) Watkins, Rockmount, Ga.; grandchildren Seth Hawkins, Wesley Hawkins, and Ethan Whitton; siblings Gene Laughlin, Glennell Laughlin, David Laughlin, Phillip Laughlin, Lavada Bachelor, Noveline Weeks, Naomi Bethea, and Janie Chavies.
Don Garrison and Robbie Mitchell officiated the 11 a.m. service July 3 at the Chapel of Snead Funeral Home. Burial was at New Emmeaus Cemetery with Calvin Salamone, Ethan Whitton, Bobby Garrison, Dale Hawkins, Jeff King, and Robbie Mitchell serving as pallbearers.
