A Hayden softball player and an Oneonta baseball player will represent the county in next week’s high school all star games in Montgomery.
Hayden’s Sharley Miller and Oneonta’s Ko Powell – both rising seniors – will play next Tuesday, July 21, in the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association games. The games are part of All-Star Sports Week, which is held each summer and features contests in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, and volleyball.
Miller, a first team all-state selection, finished 22-3 with three saves with an ERA of 0.36 this year. In 194 innings, she gave up only 44 hits with 246 strikeouts and just 14 walks. She finished the year with 25 shutouts.
Powell, a second baseman, was a second team all-state selection this year. He hit .447 with five home runs, 17 doubles, and 34 RBIs. He also led the team with 32 stolen bases and 54 runs scored.
The baseball game will be played at Riverwalk Stadium, home of the Montgomery Biscuits, on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The softball game will be played at Lagoon Park on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
