Both political action committees (PACs) working toward the upcoming Nov. 8 referendum on the 1-cent sales tax increase in Blount County recently filed financial reports for the last two weeks of October. The contents are public information and are presented here.
Moving Blount County Forward is the PAC supporting the sales tax increase. Its chairman is Jeffrey Hallmark and treasurer is Debra Goble. The PAC reported a total of $28,350 as a beginning balance of contributions for the period ending Oct. 21 with an additional $2,000 in contributions for that week.
Contributors for this reporting period included Greg Reid of Hayden; B. Wayne and Gail Bailey of Highland Lake; Performance Testing and Balancing of Cleveland; Don Mitchell of Arab; and the Blount County Economic Development Council, of Oneonta.
The PAC reported expenditures for advertising totaling $22,655 for the period. Monies expended were paid to Greystone Public Affairs of Hoover, for advertising.
Making Blount County Great Again is the PAC opposing the sales tax increase. Its chairman is Dennis Beavers. The PAC reported a total of $1,200 in-kind contributions for the week ending Oct. 21. The sole contributor was Dennis Beavers of Blountsville. All contributed monies were expended for advertising.
