Last week, three separate incidents of delivered packages being or attempting to be stolen were reported to Oneonta Police Chief James Chapman, and two reports were officially filed.
On Tuesday, two suspects were attempting to take a package but left abruptly when someone walked up, according to Chapman, and on Thursday, $700 worth of packages were taken.
“They were taken within a 30-to-40 minute window from the time they were delivered,” he said.
That same day, a neighbor reported seeing suspicious activity but could not give a vehicle description. No report was filed concerning this incident.
Since then, according to Chapman, the delivery person has been informed and encouraged to keep a lookout for people following him. No incidents have been reported since Thursday.
Chapman says those who are having packages delivered should also take necessary precautions.
“If you know you are having a package delivered, and you aren’t at home to get it, deliver it to a business you are acquainted with or a friend you know will be at home,” he said. “Packages need to be delivered to someone who will be there to receive them immediately.”
