Ottis L. Shedd

 

 

OTTIS L. SHEDD, 96, Blountsville, died May 2, 2018. Known throughout the county as an entrepreneur, he worked as a building contractor for more than 40 years, building businesses and homes in Blount and surrounding counties. He owned and operated Shedd Building Supply in Blountsville for 37 years. He built and operated Snead Funeral Home for several years, built and operated Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home and Holly Pond Funeral Home, which continue to be operated by family. He also founded Blue Springs Water Company in Blountsville. He was proud of his family and he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Parents John and Emma Young Shedd predeceased him, as did brother Lonnie J. Shedd and sister Tava Shedd Brown.

Surviving are wife of 76 years Gelene Smith Shedd; daughters Carole (Robert) Colvard, Holly Pond, Linda (David) Spike, Guntersville, Jackie Patterson, Cleveland; grandchildren Robbie (Irena) Colvard, Houston, Texas, Annie Spike, Guntersville, Genie (John) Vons, Huntsville, Chad (Christy) Patterson, Foley, Nikki (Matt) Ryan, Huntsville; great-grandchildren Brittany Colvard, Carly Patterson, Jackson Vons; sisters Evelyn Batemon, Floie (Tommy) Duvall.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m on May 5 at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Holly Pond Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were nephews Stanley Batemon, John Danny Batemon, Anthony Batemon, Darrell Batemon, Chris Shedd, and Rusty Duvall. Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home and Holly Pond Funeral Home directed.
