Otelco in Blountsville offers new TV services

The Blountsville Telephone Company division of Otelco began Dec.1 offering digital television to customers in Blountsville. The over 100 channels are in a lineup similar to that of Otelco Cable TV service in the Oneonta area.

It will be delivered into customers’ homes over existing telephone lines in the same manner as digital subscriber line (DSL) internet, rather than over coaxial cable. This digital method of delivery is also known as “Internet Protocol Television,” or IPTV. It is a new technology being considered or currently used by other telephone companies around the country.

“Otelco is proud to be able to make the investment necessary to expand and improve services to our customers in the Blountsville area,” said Phil Thrower, general manager of Otelco’s Brindlee and Bloutsville divisions.

Otelco will begin installing digital television to homes and businesses located within approximately one mile of its downtown Blountsville office. Service will be expanded as quickly as possible into other areas based on demand, Thrower said. The new digital TV service will require one IP modem at the home or business and a set-top box at each connected television.

The service will offer over 100 channels of TV programming and music in the entry level Digital Family package for $42.95 per month. Modem rental, if needed, is $6 per month. Optional premium channels, such as HBO/Max, Starz, and Television en Espanol, as well as many popular high definition channels, will be available as choices to customers.

Otelco offers a number of bundled services combining local telephone service, unlimited long distance calling, high-speed internet, and digital TV for a package price, starting at $133.90 per month plus taxes and government fees. As a special introductory offer, the charges are reduced to $99.95 for this package for the first three months.

Other package combinations are available. Call 429-4141 or go by the Blountsville telephone office for further details.
