Susan Moore High School will be undergoing a facelift in the coming months.
“We are trying to put a face to the school,” says Blount County Supt. Jim Carr. “A lot of the time visitors wander around the campus because they don’t even know where the high school office is.”
The reconstruction, which will cost an estimated $1.1 million, will take place on the west side of the campus near the gym.
The office, which used to be tucked away on the east side of campus, will be moving to the home economic area along with a lobby, a reception area, and offices for the bookkeeper, secretary, counselor, principal, records, and a conference room.
The exterior will feature open breezeways surrounding a new entrance.
“This has been in our plan for five years,” Carr says.“After we finished the Southeastern School construction it was our plan to then move to this.We let the bid Monday, so there are still contracts to be signed and paperwork to be finished, but we expect groundbreaking to begin in about a month, and hopefully it will be finished by late fall.”
Carr says he hopes this reconstruction will make access to the campus easier, help traffic flow smoother, and improve safety.
Birmingham-based Lathan Associates Architects provided the blueprint and Lee Builders Inc. of Huntsville will be completing the construction.
Additionally, a new elementary lunchroom will be built.See Bids awarded for Susan Moore schools construction below.
