OPD investigates elder abuse

Investigator Jimmy Baldwin reports Oneonta Police Department have opened two elder abuse investigations due to financial exploitation. Charges have not been filed as the investigations are in the initial stages.

On Sept. 21, OPD gained sufficient evidence to obtain a search warrant in reference to possible narcotics at a home in the 2000 block of Second Avenue East.

The search ended with a white male being arrested on charges of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

During the search, several long guns and pistols were located in the home and one of the weapons was identified as being stolen out of Pell City. The gun is being held as evidence and will be returned to the owner at a later date.

On Sept. 15, a shoplifting incident at Tractor Supply led to the arrest of one person. According to the report, the suspect left the Tractor Supply store with the stolen merchandise and placed it under a bush outside of the Olive Home assisted living facility.

Officers were able to quickly apprehend the suspect and recover the merchandise. The suspect was charged with fourth degree theft of property.

Other arrests for the week of Sept. 18 by OPD include three for driving under the influence, one for shoplifting, and nine on warrants.
