Oneonta’s Johnson commits to Georgia Tech

Oneonta senior wide receiver/defensive back Jalen Johnson has verbally committed to Georgia Tech.

The 6’3, 200-pounder is expected to get a look at wide receiver but might prove to be a better fit on the defensive side of the ball for an ACC team that threw fewer than 200 passes last year.

Johnson has starred on both sides of the ball for the Redskins the last two years. In 2012, he caught 57 passes for 900 yards and 14 touchdowns as the Redskins rolled to a 14- 1 record and a trip to the 4A state title game. On defense, Johnson finished fourth on the team with 88 tackles and led the team with five interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.

Johnson capped off spring training last month with six catches for 92 yards and touchdowns of 9 and 62 yards in the Redskins’ 29-7 jamboree win over Arab.

Georgia Tech was 7-7 last year and defeated USC 21-7 in the Sun Bowl.
