Oneonta School Board summary of actions



The following summarizes actions taken by the Oneonta Board of Education in three recent, brief meetings. All are recommendations of acting Superintendent Smiley Veal, approved unanimously by the board.

July 22

Approved:
• David Elrod as varsity girls’ basketball coach.
• E’Tara Barnes as health and PE teacher, assistant girls’
varsity basketball coach, and assistant softball coach.
• Liz Miller as special education multi-handicapped
teacher.
• Rachel Dean to fill Sara Towns’s maternity leave.

Accepted 16 non-resident students for the 2014-15 school year; accepted one non-resident student on probation for the first semester of the 2014-15 school year. Approved the request by Aimee Wilson and Jayne Posey to use the auditorium, dressing rooms, lobby, and concession stand Sunday, Oct. 19, for the Miss Covered Bridge Pageant.

Approved:
Elizabeth Miller’s resignation as special education aide.
• Katherine Vinson as special education aide for the
2014-15 school year.
• Amy McDowell Weston to fill Sara Towns’s maternity
leave for the first semester of the 2014-15 school year.
• maternity leave for Emily Smith for the first quarter of
the 2014-15 school year.
• Gary Hunt as a volunteer JV football assistant coach for
the 2014-15 school year; Kristen Gilliland as volunteer paid
volleyball assistant coach.

Accepted one out-of-district elementary student. Approved board policies 704.5 (concerning physical restraint of children with severe behavioral problems), and 814.1 (concerning requirement for sex offenders to notify school of their intent to be present on school property).

Approved:
• amended coaching assignments for the 2014-15
school year.
• amended athletic and activity supplement schedule for
the 2014-15 school year.
• added special education aide.
• transferred special education teacher unit authorized
July 10 to the kindergarten, due to actual enrollment there.
• one non-resident student to attend the elementary
school.
