Responding to prior requests by local wrecker service providers Skint Knuckle Garage and Glover Wrecker, the Oneonta City Council amended its ordinance to raise towing, administrative, and storage charges for impounded vehicles. Towing fees will increase from $75 to $125, storage from $25 to $35 a day, and the administrative fee to $25 from $10.
In other business, councilors hired Rachel Moore for seasonal concession stand work. Members also heard from Blount County Children’s Center director Jim Ed Clayton. Clayton advised the council of prior and new services from the center and thanked the council for its continued financial support of the center’s programs.
Councilman Richard Phillips announced beautification awards in the absence of that board’s chair. Jack Holloway accepted the residential award, after Phillips had named Joan’s Art Studio as the commercial winner.
Councilor Nathaniel Butler missed the Dec. 12 meeting, attended by Phillips, Mayor Ross Norris, and remaining councilors Hal Blackwood, Danny Robinson, and Tonya Rogers. Members previously voted to move their scheduled Dec. 26 meeting to Thursday, Dec. 28, at the regular time of 5:30 p.m.
