Oneonta police chief comments on DUI arrests

Since the city of Oneonta legalized the sale of alcohol, DUIs have either remained steady or dropped in total, according to Oneonta Police Chief James Chapman.

“There has been really no change over the past few months, and it’s no longer against the law to possess unopened alcoholic beverages in the city limits, so those cases no longer exist,” he said. “However, DUIs associated with narcotics are more frequent lately, which is what we’ve been trying to make people understand for some time. Drugs are the most serious problem this department faces; not alcohol.”
