Oneonta graduate dies in Northport

A 19 year-old died Sunday at his home in Northport possibly from drowning, according to a report from The Tuscaloosa News. Oneonta interim superintendent Smiley Veal confirmed the teen was a 2013 graduate of Oneonta High School.

The body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

Sgt. Dale Phillips of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide, told The Tuscaloosa News it was unclear what the teen may have died from.

“There could be other issues that caused the death other than drowning, we just don’t know right now,” Phillips said. “There is no evidence to show that foul play was involved.”

The teen had been swimming with family members in a backyard pool throughout the day, but everyone was inside when the incident occurred, Phillips said.

Family members performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
