Oneonta council holds brief regular session

Facing an executive session and the annual Blount County Christmas parade, the Oneonta City Council breezed through its latest session in near record time.

During a session that lasted a little more than 5 minutes, the council approved Mayor Ross Norris’s call for a public hearing at 5:15 p.m. prior to their next scheduled meeting on Dec. 17 to consider an alcohol special events license request. That request relates to a bull-riding event at the Blount County-Oneonta Agri-Business Center on Jan.8-9.

The council previously rescheduled their usual fourth Tuesday of the month meeting to Thursday, Dec. 17, at 5:30 p.m. to accommodate holiday plans for the councilors. Council member Tonya Rogers missed the Dec. 8 session; all other councilors (Hal Blackwood, Mark Gargus, Tim McNair, and Danny Robinson) joined Norris. Prior to adjournment, councilors recessed into executive session with city attorney Alex Smith to consider a legal matter.
