Oneonta council covers little business in its latest meeting

Besides approval of minutes from its last meeting, the Oneonta City Council’s only action in its last session was to vote to advertise for a part-time firefighter. Councilors decided to extend the job announcement after having allowed a first opportunity for in-house staffers.

Oneonta Business Association president Wayne Shaddix announced his group would host an outside movie downtown scheduled for the last Saturday of the month. The to-be-determined movie will complement the usual fifth-Saturday Crossroads Cruisers automobile show.

In the absence of beautification board chair Marlene Stroud, fellow board member Kathy Young presented the July award winners. Nancy and Randy Bailey won the residential recognition while Huddle House received the commercial award.

All council members (Mayor Darryl Ray, Hal Buckelew, Mark Gargus, Tim McNair, Ross Norris and Danny Robinson) attended the July 12 meeting. The council holds its regular sessions the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.
