One person is dead and another injured after separate shootings last week.
Early Thursday morning, Clint Myrick, 28, was killed by a shotgun blast at a residence on Kelsoe Road, off Hwy 36, near Susan Moore, according to authorities.
Sources say Myrick, allegedly armed with a baseball bat, was shot by his girlfriend after she fired a warning shot. The Blount County Sheriff’s Department received a call at approximately 1:30 a.m., of a burglary in progress at the residence. The girlfriend told the officers she had recently kicked him out of her house.
The case will go to grand jury, according to Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey, who released the following statement:“At this time, my office is working with law enforcement to review all the evidence in this matter. This process takes time, and I commend the local law enforcement for their work in the case. I will continue to work with them to review all the evidence. It is standard policy for my office to submit all non-attended deaths to the grand jury for review. All deaths that are caused by another are labeled a homicide. The grand jury will make a determination as to whether it was a justified homicide under the law or murder. This case will be submitted to the grand jury once law enforcement and the DFS – Department of Forensic Sciences – have concluded their work.”
Another shooting, which took place in Remlap over the weekend, left one person injured and the suspect charged with attempted murder, authorities said.
Dustin Hackney, 24, of Blount County, is charged with the crime, according to Casey. He posted bond on Monday and was released from the Blount County Jail, according to authorities.
Sources confirmed the victim, who has not been identified, was airlifted to a nearby hospital and has been released.
