From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., special events will take place in addition to the spectacular shopping opportunities. There will be photos with Santa, ornament making for children, letters to Santa, and delicious dining opportunities.
Light refreshments and prize drawings will also be available at participating merchants.
Christmas events chairperson Dawn Glass said, “The OBA is excited to kick off the holiday shopping season with our Christmas Open House. We’re fortunate to have so many diverse and unique shopping options right here in town, and we always encourage everyone to shop locally first.”
During the open house celebration, children will have the opportunity to create unique ornaments at Redeemer Community Church from 9 a.m. until noon.
Artist Jessica Robbins will supervise the children as they craft their masterpieces.
These beautiful decorations will adorn the community Christmas tree at the gazebo beginning Dec. 1.
Beginning Nov. 18, look for the big red mailbox located at DD’s Place. This special mailbox will allow children to have their Christmas wishes “mailed” directly to Santa.
The Christmas elves will make sure all Christmas requests arrive before Santa makes his Christmas Eve flight.
Letters with a return address, received by Dec. 18, and have $3 placed in a sealed envelope will receive a personalized reply with a North Pole postmark.
To continue in the holiday spirit, Santa will be located in a display at DD’s Place. He will be awaiting the arrival of children for photo opportunities and visits.
No appointment is necessary, however, there is a $10 sitting fee. Photo files will be emailed, and CDs will be mailed for an additional fee.
Continuing on with the Christmas spirit, businesses will transform their windows and storefronts into beautiful creations as they compete in the fifth annual holiday decorating contest.
Be sure to also mark the calendar for the community Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. This event will kick off Small Town Christmas in Oneonta.
The Wallace State Singers will be performing, Santa Claus will be making an appearance, and hot chocolate will be served.
Another Santa photo opportunity will be available on Saturday, Dec. 2, from noon until 8 p.m. at the Blount County-Oneonta Agri-Business Center. A $10 sitting fee will be charged. This is a cash-only event.
OBA encourages everyone to enjoy the special holiday activities, support Blount County businesses, and shop local.
