Oak Hill Cemetery in Oneonta will hold the 41st annual Decoration Day this weekend.

Volunteers will man the entrances from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, to assist families and to accept donations for cemetery upkeep. Many families elect to donate in lieu of placing flowers on graves, and some choose to do both – giving money for upkeep and remembering loved ones with flowers. Such donations are the only source of income for the cemetery.

Many improvements have been made at the cemetery over the last few years, including attractive stonework at the main entrance – a gift from the estate of the late Sally Pitts – and new fencing between the cemetery and adjoining Woodland Park built by the city of Oneonta.

Decoration Day weekend always conincides with Mother’s Day, and there will be a special service at the cemetery chapel at 11 a.m. Sunday.
