The Lady Bulldogs got off to a quick start last Friday as they opened up the 2021 Lakeshore Girls Shootout at Eagle Sports Complex in Calera. They started the weekend with a 10-0 win over Pinson. Claire Perkins scored eight goals, Angela Hernandez scored one, and Kristy Cervantes added one goal. The Lady Bulldog defense held Pinson scoreless for their third shutout of the season.

On Saturday, Susan Moore started the day with a morning match against Calera. Susan Moore outscored Calera 8-2. Perkins scored all eight goals for the Lady Bulldogs.

Saturday evening, the Lady Bulldogs played Carver High School (Birmingham) for the championship, coming out on top 4-2. Perkins scored three goals and Claribel Robles scored one.

“Our defense did great against a very fast Carver team,” coach Nick Butts said. “Carver had a lot of speed but our defense played physical and we have a lot of speed as well. This season has been exciting for us! We’re playing as a team and everyone is playing with passion and having fun.

“Our goal two years ago was to build this program to where it is now and I think you can see that we’ve accomplished that already. This group believes in each other and we’re having fun. We’re a team that can make a deep run in the playoffs, if we can continue to stay healthy and play the way that we’re playing now.”
