ONEONTA FIRE DEPARTMENT will be testing fire hydrants Monday, April 5, through Friday, April 30, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. The testing is necessary to remove sediment in the lines and to check the functionality of the hydrants. 205-274-2752.

BLOUNT COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER INC. will be participating in the PALS roadside trash pickup. Members are asked to pick up trash on their streets, roads, or drives. All bags of trash collected can be brought Saturday, April 10, and Monday, April 12, between 8 a.m. and noon to the Carl Coleman Center, 4141 Hwy 13, Locust Fork. FUN(D) RAFT TRIP Saturday, April 10, sponsored by Friends of the Locust Fork River will provide a rare opportunity to experience the thrill of whitewater from the relative comfort and safety of a six-person raft, thanks to Locust Fork Expeditions. CHEROKEE FESTIVAL AND POWWOW will be held at 3550 Creek Path Road, Guntersville, AL 35976. Children’s day is Friday, April 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free admission. Gates will open at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 17, with the grand entry from noon until 7 p.m. and the annual bonfire from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gates will be open Sunday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with grand entry at noon. Events Sunday include Native American drums and dancing, arts and crafts demonstrations, singing, storytelling, and flint-knapping. RELAY FOR LIFE The annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held Friday, April 23, at the Oneonta Ballpark. Employees of Oneonta City Hall will sponsor a booth and drawing to win a beach basket, Alabama basket, Auburn basket, house divided basket, woman’s basket, man’s basket, and other items. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at Oneonta City Hall or by contacting any city hall employee. The drawing will be held the afternoon of the relay with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Much appreciation is extended to all merchants and individuals who donated gifts for the baskets.
