THE ONEONTA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION will meet Tuesday, April 3, at 5:30 p.m. at Miller’s Soda Shoppe. All members and interested citizens are encouraged to attend this important meeting.

ONEONTA FIRE DEPARTMENT will conduct fire hydrant testing during the month of April. Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., firefighters will be flowing water from hydrants throughout the city limits of Oneonta. As a result, this procedure could produce a slight discoloration in the water, but in no way affects the safety or taste of the drinking water. The flushing is necessary to test the function of the fire hydrant and to remove any natural sediment accumulated in the water lines. Phone the Oneonta Fire Department at 274-2752 with questions.

FEDERAL E-VERIFY PROGRAM BEGINS APRIL 1 Farmers must begin using the federal e-Verify program for new employees beginning April 1, as required by Alabama’s new immigration law. MORTON REUNION Descendants of John Wesley and Jimmie Octavana Gibson Morton will meet at Snead Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (42514 State Hwy 75), Saturday, June 9, at 10 a.m. Marshall Morton Sr. and his sons traveled to Blount County from Pendleton, S.C., as early as 1820. Every Morton descendant is welcome to attend. Bring a covered dish and enjoy lunch, fellowship, and photographs. ONEONTA ATHLETIC BOOSTERS $10,000 GIVEAWAY Purchase a $100 ticket which includes two steak dinners, chances at door prizes, and a chance to win $10,000. GRAMMY-NOMINATED BLUEGRASS VOCALIST CLAIRE LYNCH will perform with her award-winning band on Sunday, April 22, in Blount Springs at 4:30pm. and The Claire Lynch Band will perform during the Civil War Remembrance weekend in Blount Springs.
