Come one, come all

The 2011 Altoona Christmas Parade will take to the streets Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m., the night following Blount County’s in Oneonta. That means you can go to them both. How’s that for welcoming the Yuletide?

At Altoona, you’ll see The University of Alabama’s Big Al, Auburn University’s Aubie, more college and corporate mascots, classic cars, marching bands, creative floats, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, many unique entries you’ll have to see to believe,, grand marshals, horse and hoof units, emergency and military vehicles… and even that’s not all.

There’s no fee for entering the parade. Just phone Kevin at 589-2654 or Altoona City Hall at 589-2311.

Education documentary to be shown All teachers and interested community members are invited to a special advanced screening of the documentary American Teacher on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in the J.B. Pennington High School auditorium. Dr. Tony Thacker of the Alabama Department of Education, who is featured in the film, will welcome audience members and kickoff the event. The documentary was directed by Oscar winner Vanessa Roth, produced by Ninive Calegari and Dave Eggars, and narrated by Matt Damon.
