ONEONTA CITY COUNCIL will have a work session today at 5:30 p.m. to consider a property use request.

NARFE CHAPTER 942 will meet tomorrow, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at Catfish Cabin restaurant in Albertville. Chris Mathew with Blue Cross Blue Shield will be the guest speaker.

WEST BLOUNT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE will have the monthly meeting tomorrow, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m., at the Hayden Community Center. The second annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held and citizen of the year announced. The chamber will provide ham, turkey and dressing and gravy Residents attending are asked to bring a dish as follows: last name beginning with A-H, vegetable side dishes; I-O, salad side dishes; P-T, a dessert; U-Z, drinks.

REMLAP COMMUNITY NEIGHBORS is forming to meet needs in the community and help residents. Bring a brown bag lunch to the first and third Wednesday, 11 a.m. meetings, or bring your own coffee to the second Saturday meetings at 9 a.m. All meetings are held at Remlap Methodist Church on Remlap Drive.

STRAIGHT MOUNTAIN SENIOR CITIZENS meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 10 a.m. at Mountain Pointe Ministries. A meal is provided.

AMARYLLIS GARDEN CLUB MITTEN TREE is up at the Oneonta Public Library. Donate mittens/gloves, caps, sweaters, jackets, pajamas, and other warm clothing, along with coloring books and crayons and small toys. The items will be given to the Blount County Children’s Center and the Hope House by Dec. 17 for distribution to needy children.

APPALACHIAN HIGH SCHOOL will have the second annual Trees on the Diamond, Monday, Nov. 30, through Friday, Dec. 4, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Fraser fir Christmas trees will be sold from $35 – $45. Phone 274- 9712 for more information.

BLOUNTSVILLE HISTORICAL PARK Carolyn Vest will teach how to make Christmas door decorations on Dec. 5. Phone 429-2468 for more information and reservations as class space is limited.

There will be a free Christmas program and Open House with a live manger scene, scripture, and how Christmas was celebrated in the 1800’s on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m.

ONEONTA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION The OBA is sponsoring the 3rd annual Holiday Decorating Contest this Christmas season. Entries must register by Nov. 20 and be decorated by Dec. 1 for judging. There will be prizes for first, second, third, people’s choice, and three honorable mentions. Winners will be announced Dec. 17. Entry forms are available at Miller’s Soda Shoppe or Downtown Antiques 2 Junk on First Avenue.

Christmas Open House will be Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in downtown Oneonta. Santa will be available for photos and participating merchants will give away door prizes. Those under financial hardships may complete an application for reduced or monthly payments.
