UNITED WAY AND CHARLIE B’S RESTAURANT All day today, 15 percent of proceeds from all meals will be donated to the United Way.

OPERATION GRATEFUL HEART VETERANS DINNER will be Friday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. at the Oneonta Worship Center. Veterans may pick up free tickets at the Blount County Memorial Museum, Tuesday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

VETERANS DAY PARADE is Saturday, Nov. 7, and will begin at 10 a.m. Participants will begin lining up at 9 a.m. The parade will stay on Ala 75 through town, turn left at the Picket Fence, go through downtown, ending in the Blount County-Oneonta Agri-Business Center parking lot. Organizers say this is the biggest parade yet, with 41 entries and five bands. Rain date will be Nov. 14.

LOCUST FORK MASONIC LODGE will sponsor a turkey shoot on Saturdays Nov. 7, and Nov. 14, beginning at 10 a.m. on Ala 79 south of Locust Fork between Reid’s Grocery and LKQ. Factory chokes only. Phone 493- 2270 for more information.

VETERANS DAY LUNCHEON is sponsored by Oneonta First Baptist Church and will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the fellowship hall at noon. Guest speaker will be Col. B. Travis Keith, U.S. Army, retired. Tickets can be picked up for the free event at the church office, or phone 625-3191 to reserve a seat.

WELCOME HOME FOR JAY will be Sunday, Nov. 7, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., at the Clowdus Creekside Cabin. Jay Kent, originally from Oneonta, was involved in a bicycle accident and hospitalized in Idaho for two months. The cabin address is 35821 Ala 75, Oneonta.

DAVE AND JANIE PHILLIPS GREEN FAMILY REUNION will be Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Dalton Moss Lodge at Palisades Park. Bring one dish and memories to share. Paper goods will be provided.

ALACARE HOME HEALTH is offering a workshop for adults titled ‘Grief and Holidays’ on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m., which will include conversations and ideas on how to manage during the holiday season.

AMERICAN LEGION POST #72 is selling 2 pounds of pulled pork and sauce for $25 to be picked up Nov. 7. Tickets are available at the Blount County Memorial Museum during the hours of 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Money raised benefits Blount County veterans.

SUMMIT VOLUNTEER FIRE AND RESCUE will have a turkey shoot on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the old rock school, 79094 U.S. 231, from 8 a.m. until noon. The $5 per shot fee is for using 12-gauge, 20- gauge, or .410 shotguns. Phone 256-557-5739. Proceeds benefit the fire and rescue.

‘THE GREAT RAGE’ is a documentary that addresses questions that deal with Isreal, end-times prophecy, and the rising animosity towards the Jewish.The film will be shown at Grace Fellowship at 418 Sixth Street South in Oneonta on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. Pastors and congregational leaders are invited. HIGHLAND LAKE TOWN MEETING will be Monday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m., at the Anchor to discuss dredging of the lake and what it means to the lake and residents. Representatives from Tetra Tech, the firm hired to do feasibility studies, will be on hand to answer questions.

WEST BLOUNT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE is asking for nominations for the 2015 Citizen of the Year. Submissions should include a few paragraphs describing the individual or business and why they should receive the honor. Nominations are accepted at Traditions Bank or Hayden Town Hall and are due by Wednesday, Nov. 11. The Thanksgiving and Recognition Dinner will be Thursday, Nov. 19.
