ONEONTA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION The OBA Awards Dinner will be Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Oneonta Church of Christ fellowship hall with hors d’oeuvers at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Darrell Edwards and Wayne Shaddix will be honored for their longtime service to the organization, and the group will present awards to citizen, business, new business, and volunteer of the year. Tickets are $25 and are available at Downtown Antiques 2 Junk, Treasures on Main, Gate House Antiques, or at the website.

The second annual Holiday Decorating Contest will expand to two categories and include storefronts, windows, buildings, structures, and more. WEST BLOUNT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE is accepting nominations for the Citizen of the Year, to be honored at the Nov. 21 dinner meeting. Nominations should be submitted to the chamber by Oct. 15 to WBCOC, P.O. Box 187, Hayden, AL 35079 or contact a chamber board member for more information.

SEED SAVING/SWAPPING WORKSHOP will be offered by the Blount County Extension office on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Frank Green Building auditorium. Bring favorite seed to share with others interested in saving, collecting, and storing seed. Phone the extension office at 274-2129 to register.

BLOUNT COUNTY LITERACY COUNCIL will host a Basic Literacy Tutor Training for adults who wish to help other adults learn to read on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Blount County Resource Center in Cleveland. BLOUNTSVILLE HARVEST FESTIVAL will have a kickoff banquet tomorrow, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Blountsville United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Rep. Randall Shedd will speak and the Dr. Donald Smith Service Award will be presented to the volunteer of the year. Masonic Lodge 145 will prepare the $10 per person dinner.
