ONEONTA AMERICAN LEGION POST #72 has purchased a Christmas tree as part of the Oneonta Business Association Festival of Lights. The theme of our tree is ‘A Military Christmas.’ If you have military ornaments you’d like to donate to our tree, please phone Bill Hendrickson at 205- 532-6464. The tree will be decorated today, Nov. 27, and tomorrow, Nov. 28.

THANKSGIVING LUNCH will be tomorrow, Nov. 28, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at Lester Memorial Fellowship Hall. No charge; all are welcome.

ONEONTA PUBLIC LIBRARY The library will be closed tomorrow, Nov. 28, through Sunday, Dec. 1, for Thanksgiving.

BLOUNTSVILLE HISTORICAL PARK Christmas Open House and program will be Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. There will be special music, a devotion, a live Nativity, refreshments, and tours of all buildings. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be at the church.

The park is open for weddings, reunions, and meetings. The park is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., to stamp your 200th celebration passbook, and view several old and interesting artifacts on display. Phone 205-429-2468 for reservations.

LIGHTS AND SANTA AT PALISADES PARK Drive through the 19th annual Christmas lights in the park any night in December (except Dec. 24 and 25) between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcomed. Santa will be at the cottage for photos every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Dec. 6 through Dec. 22, from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. nightly.

BLOUNT COUNTY EDUCATION RETIREES will meet Friday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 a.m., at Charlie B’s Restaurant, for the annual Christmas program. Amy Rhudy, Blount County Memorial Museum curator, will present the Santa Auction.

The Chamber will celebrate Alabama’s 200th birthday with a wine tasting Friday, Dec. 13, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., at Grapes & Hops, 231 First Avenue East, Oneonta. Sample a selection of beer and wine and enjoy snacks, live music, and holiday shopping.

BLOUNT COUNTY CHILDREN’S CENTER CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE will be Friday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Staff and board members invite you to join them for homemade lunch and desserts at 106 First Avenue North, Oneonta. BICENTENNIAL BELLS ACROSS ALABAMA The 70 chapters of the Alabama Society DAR are inviting everyone across the state to join them in ringing bells to celebrate statehood day in Alabama. There will be a special bell ringing at noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, at The Little Brick Church in Oneonta. Everyone is invited.

MITTEN TREE is up at Oneonta Public Library. Please bring new mittens, gloves, caps, warm clothing items, children’s books, coloring books and crayons, and small toys. Items will be distributed to the Blount County Children’s Center and Hope House by Dec. 18. The tree is sponsored by the Amaryllis Garden Club.

CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA will be Saturday, Dec. 21, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., at Oneonta Fire and Rescue Service, 308 Second Street North. The free community event will include Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, fire truck show, blacksmith exhibition, arts and crafts, snacks, and hot chocolate.

ITALIAN VISTAS TOUR will depart March 18, 2021. The nine day tour includes Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Rome, Pompeii, Pisa, and Isle of Capri.
