BLOUNT COUNTY MEMORIAL MUSEUM The museum is sponsoring a photography contest and is seeking photos of historical interest in Blount County. Photos should be 4×6 or 5×7 for ages 17 and up and should include the item, location, and date of the photo on the back. Supply photographer information on a separate sheet of paper. Deadline to submit a photo is Feb. 15, 2018. The photo could be on next year’s museum Christmas ornament.

ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS The Blount County office is now open Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

CHAPTER 28 DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS The Blount County group has a service office at 1004 2nd Street East, Oneonta, open each Monday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.. HOPE HOUSE THRIFT STORE is in need of gently used furniture, appliances, apparel, and household items. Please donate clean items in working condition. This allows the organization to provide items to needy Blount County residents at a low cost. All donations are tax deductible. 33RD ANNUAL HOLIDAY RED CROSS BLOODMOBILE will be at North Broad Street Church of Christ fellowship hall on Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The church is located at 308 N. Broad St. in Albertville.

CITY OF ONEONTA The regular council meeting has been changed and will be Thursday, Dec. 28, at 5:30 p.m.

RICKWOOD CAVERNS STATE PARK The first-ever holiday in the cave will be through Dec. 23, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. each day. The theme is Santa’s Underground Workshop and the cave will be lit with colorful Christmas lights. Admission is $10 per person.

PALISADES PARK The 17th annual Christmas Lights in the Park is open between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. every night in December, except Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Santa will be at the cottage and available for photos on Dec. 22.

1980s FILM FESTIVAL will be Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Covered Bridge Players theater, with movies scheduled as follows: Pretty in Pink – noon; Goonies – 2:30 p.m.; Sixteen Candles – 5 p.m.; TBD – 7:30 p.m. A $3 per movie donation is requested, or see all movies for a $10 day pass. ONEONTA PUBLIC LIBRARY will be closed Dec. 23-26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1. No items will be due and no late fees will accumulate on those days. Dropbox items will be checked in as being turned in the day normal hours resume.
