BLOUNT COUNTY SOLAR HOMES TOUR will be Saturday, Oct. 8, and Sunday, Oct. 9. The five-home guided tour is offered in the Royal community and features homes that are both energy efficient and use solar technologies that are clean and renewable. CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK MOTORCYCLE RIDE will be Saturday, Oct. 8, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m., at the Oneonta Walmart. The cost is $15 for a single rider, and $5 for extra riders. There will be prizes, food and drinks, and fun and games for all ages. Proceeds benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. BROOKSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT will have a fish fry on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the fire hall at the intersection of Ala 79 and U.S. 278. The $11 plate includes fish, shrimp, or chicken with all the fixings. Proceeds benefit the fire department.

BLOUNT COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT FLU CLINIC will be Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m until 4 p.m., available for those 6 months and older. Cost is $5 for those with no insurance. Medicaid, Blue Advantage, Medicare (red, white, and blue card), ALLKids, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurances accepted. Phone 274-2120 for more information.

CHILDREN’S CENTER PANCAKE BREAKFAST The annual breakfast will be Saturday, Oct. 22, from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m., at Lester Memorial United Methodist Church. The $5 per person plate includes homemade pancakes, sausage, and drink. Tickets are available at the door the day of the event. All proceeds benefit the programs and mission of the Blount County Childrens Center.

COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY EXERCISE CLASSES will be Fridays, Oct. 14 and 28, at 10 a.m., at the Frank Green Building auditorium. Exercises are approved by the American Arthritis Association and classes are free to attend. Phone Sonya at 625- 6079 with questions.

J.B. PENNINGTON ALUMNI ASSOCIATION DINNER will be Saturday, Oct. 15, at the school lunchroom. Tickets are $25 per person and include a buffet dinner of catfish and chicken at 5:30 p.m., followed by a chance to win one of three grand prizes or other door prizes. CAR CARE FAIR will be Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at H&S Garage, Inc., 10101 Ala 160, Hayden. The free vehicle check will be performed by a certified technician and there is no further obligation. There will be hotdogs, refreshments, and door prizes. The business pledges $10 from each oil and filter service performed that day and the following week to the Blount County Children’s Center. Donations to the children’s center will also be accepted.

STRAIGHT MOUNTAIN VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT will have a chili supper and cake auction on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., at the Anchor, Highland Lake. The $7 plate includes all-you-can-eat chili and fixings; children 12 and under $5. The cake auction will begin at 5 p.m. followed by awarding of door prizes.
