ONEONTA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION Nominations are being accepted for the Edwards/Shaddix Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Emerging Business of the Year, Organization of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year. The awards will be presented at the Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 13. Nominations are due by Sept. 15. Businesses are invited to register for the Fourth Annual Holiday Decorating Contest. Entries must be decorated with lights and the displays will be judged Dec. 1, by a panel of out-of-county judges. First place wins $500; second place $250; third place $100, and people’s choice $100. Registration is free but required for all participants by the Nov. 30 deadline. MASTER GARDENER The Blount County Extension office is taking applications for the Fall master gardener class to be held every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. from Sept. 1 through Nov. 17 at the Hayden Community Center. Topics will include: botany, vegetable gardening, plant propagation, disease and insect identification, landscape plants, and more. The price for the class is $125. BLOUNT COUNTY MEMORIAL MUSEUM is searching for photos of the Sinclair Gas Station located near Tin Town during the 1950s. Phone the museum with information.

DOG FOSTER FAMILIES NEEDED Crossing Paths Animal Rescue finds homes for hundreds of Blount County dogs every year. Dogs can be saved if there are foster homes to house them for a short time. Contact Mary Ellen at 559- 7648 if you are interested in being foster parents to a homeless dog. All food and medical care is provided while the dog is in foster care.

ROYAL COMMUNITY CENTER will have an old time music show featuring Rebel Record recording artist and member of Old Time Music Hall of Fame David Davis and Stan Wilemon. They will perform at the Royal Community Church, 251 Williams Settlement Road, on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

THE BRIDGE ACADEMY is a non-traditional public education virtual/blended program option for Blount County students in grades 9-12 to enable them to earn an accredited Alabama Public High School Diploma through online coursework at no cost to families. The student must have a 2.0 GPA, demonstrate good attendance, and must be highly motivated and self-disciplined. Interested students should speak with their school counselor to see if they qualify.
