BLOUNT COUNTY-ONEONTA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The monthly luncheon is today at noon, at the World Outreach Center, featuring state board of education interim Superintendent Dr. Philip Cleveland, as guest speaker.

FIREWORKS IN THE PARK at Locust Fork Community Park will be Sunday, July 3, beginning at 6 p.m. The event, sponsored by Locust Fork Baptist Church, includes inflatables, entertainment, and food available for purchase. Fireworks will take place between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

BLOUNTSVILLE HISTORICAL PARK ‘Sounds of Freedom’ will be Monday, July 4, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Rep. Randall Shedd will be the guest speaker and the program will end at 1 p.m. with the ringing of the bell 13 times, along with other Liberty Bells throughout the country. BLOUNTSVILLE AMERICAN LEGION will sell barbecue or chicken plates with all the fixings for $8 each at the hall on Monday, July 4, beginning at 11 a.m.

SUSAN MOORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Blount County kids and teens can eat free this summer at the elementary school cafeteria Monday through Friday, until July 22. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Kids and teens under age 18 eat free, adult meal cost is $2 for breakfast, $4 for lunch. The program is sponsored by the Alabama State Dept. of Education and the USDA.

BLOUNT COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT Firearms Training Course is being offered this summer teaching gun safety, handling, and care of a handgun.The free course is open to the public, but individuals must have their own handgun and ammunition.

BLOUNTSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT will sponsor a women’s self defense class ‘Refuse to be a victim’ held at Blountsville Town Hall on the second Thursday of the month from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Learn self-defense techniques and bolster confidence with the free classes.
