With a dedication to education, Susan West is preparing for her new role as principal of Southeastern School.
“I am honored and humbled for the opportunity to touch the lives of children, the faculty, and the community,” she said. “From the time that I first came to Southeastern as a teacher, I never wanted to leave. Since then, I haven’t even applied for a job outside of this school system. The students and community are phenomenal.”
While West already has impressive experience in the field of education, including 27 years of teaching, she has previously made her mark on the school by stepping into the role of assistant principal in 2015. When asked how she is preparing to become the new principal, West replied, “I am working to move the school forward academically and athletically. It is important for students and faculty to create a grounded school culture. School pride is important.”
West is already hard at work at Southeastern School to ensure a fun and productive 2019-2020 school year. She understands that providing education takes great effort, but is tackling it head on. Of course, West made sure to recognize those working just as hard around her.
“I want everyone to unite and work together. That is how we can move forward. The partnership between the community of parents and teachers is wonderful. I can’t express how great the community at Southeastern is. The school is full of leaders who are supporting one another and who are trying to make Southeastern the best that it can be. This job is not about me; it is about the students and people within the walls of the school. To play a role in a kid’s life is the biggest reward of them all.”
