Greg Glasscock, 49, the Blount County Commission’s new human resources manager is on the job as of July 5.
Duties of the newly-created job include interviewing, hiring, and handling disciplinary matters for county workers, handling personnel files and serving as Blount County Safety Coordinator, as appointed Monday by the commission. He will also administer the county employee manual and compensation plan, as well as ensuring county compliance with federal and insurance requirements and regulations.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a management concentration from the University of Montevallo and has 13 years’ experience in human resource management. His previous job was human resources manager for B&G Supply of Albertville, a medium-sized transportation company. He has taught ready-to-work classes covering basic job skills through Snead State Community College at the Marshall County Technical School in Guntersville.
He and his wife Cindy live on the Blount County side of Albertville. They have three grown daughters. He is a trail and road runner, though he says he’s winding down his competitive regimen. Can’t blame him. He says it takes 30 to 40 miles per week to stay in shape.
In the human interest department, he says his favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption (which he watches over and over), his favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird, and his favorite restaurant of all time is Sea and Suds in Gulf Shores. Since there’s only one Sea and Suds, a more practical choice is Chili’s, he said.
