New clerks hired

Town of Snead

On a motion by councilman Dale Snead and the recommendation of utility operator Jeff Whited, the Snead Town Council approved the expenditure of $35,000 to paint the water tower. The contract goes to Contract Service Company, which Whited said they have used before and he would continue to recommend them as he has never had problems with them or their work.

Councilman Greg Ogles also recommended that money from the cutting of timber be placed into a special account for economic/industrial development. Snead Mayor La’Shone Price recommended they establish the account at Liberty Bank and the council approved Ogles’ motion.

The town also approved, on a motion by councilman Phillip McHan, spending $1,670 for the town’s annual donation to the animal adoption center.

In discussing the town’s recent acceptance of a 2020 law enforcement grant, the council also agreed to establish a special account for those funds to be deposited. Again, councilman Snead made a motion that $10,000 be transferred from the water department into the special account so that purchases approved in the grant can start being made. Once the town is reimbursed for the grant expenditures, the money borrowed from the water department would be transferred back to them.

In previous action, the council approved the hiring of Johnna Pannell as the town’s new water clerk and Jennifer Talton as the town’s new court clerk.

Before adjourning, the council went into executive session to discuss the possibility of upcoming legal action.

The Snead Town Council meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of each month.
