Last week, Snead Town Council named Jennifer Talton as new town clerk. Talton was court clerk and has served as interim town clerk since the resignation of Heather Lindsay last month. The town will now search for a new court clerk.
The council also heard a report from Snead Utility operator Jeff Whited concerning recent water tests. He told the council that test results showed higher than normal ammonia levels. “The department will continue to monitor and find the source. Fertilizer from area farms may be seeping into the water supply causing the slightly high reading,” he added.
In other business, the council approved:
• an $18,000 grant match for the purchase of a multipurpose truck that can be used as a brush truck by Snead Fire Department.
• purchase of a new speaker systems for the town’s drive-thru.
• a $1,674 donation to Blount County Animal Adoption Center.
• to continue using the Blount County Sheriff’s Department to house inmates and enter into a “municipal housing agreement.”
The Snead Council meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the Snead Community Center.
