Nell Joice Benedikt

NELL JOICE BENEDIKT, 79, born May 22, 1942, passed away Dec. 24, 2021, at St. Vincent’s Blount. She was a devoted Christian and loved her Lord and Savior. She attended services and Bible study at several churches: Mountain Chapel Church, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, and Jones Chapel Mennonite Church. Part of Joice’s mission was to share her faith and spread the word of God by volunteering in the women’s prison ministry at both St. Clair County and Blount County jails. She and her sister Ruth responded to their call of duty and served in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps in the early 1960s.

She, Ruth, and their mother Eunice owned and operated Benedikt’s Restaurant on Straight Mountain for many years. She was very dedicated and generous to friends and neighbors and provided many meals for families in need.

Joice also had a great love of animals. In addition to doing volunteer work with local shelters, she took in many dogs and cats over the years. It was her dream to have her own shelter.

She had a great love for the arts. She was a very talented artist and loved classical music. Joice also loved attending plays by the Covered Bridge Players.

If you ever struggle with how to spell her name think ReJoice!

There will be a celebration of life service Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m., at Mountain Chapel Church, 1871 Rogers Road, Oneonta.
