Southeastern’s junior high volleyball team set their sights on a championship and they delivered. Plus, they made a little history by winning the 2020 Junior High Blount County Volleyball Tournament last week.
“I am so, so proud of these girls,” head coach Alex Cole said. “They brought home the first county championship in Southeastern volleyball. Making history by keeping elite mindsets.”
The Mustangs advanced to the championship match with 2-0 wins over Locust Fork and Hayden. In the other bracket, Susan Moore posted 2-0 wins over Appalachian and J.B. Pennington on their way to the championship match.
Both teams played hard, but the Lady Mustangs came out on top 2-0.
“We came up short,” said Susan
Moore coach Adam Wilson. “I couldn’t be more proud to be their coach.”
Southeastern’s Ashley Chacon was named most valuable player. She was joined by teammates Alyssa Freeman, Alyssa Graham, Daniela Chavez, and Ansley Spitzer on the All-Tournament Team. The remainder of the 2020 Blount County Junior High All-Tournament team were Susan Moore’s Lani Smallwood, Briley Dutton, and Kaidence Painter; Cleveland’s Patelyn Battles and MaKayla Burks; J.B. Pennington’s Allie Weaver and Ashlyn Thoele; Hayden’s Cryslin Chappell; Locust Fork’s Evangelynn Huber; and Appalachian’s Britlyn Bryson.
