Municipal election dates to remember



The following dates pertain to municipal elections. Qualifyint began yesterday and will end Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. Election day is Tuesday, Aug. 23. Run-off elections, if needed, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4. Other important dates

July 19 (5 p.m.): last day to qualify to run for municipal office

July 26: deadline for absentee ballots to be delivered to town or city clerk

Aug. 18: last day for a voter to apply for a regular absentee ballot

Aug. 19: last day for voter to provide proper identification not previously submitted

Aug. 22: last day for voter to apply for emergency absentee ballot August 23: Election Day

Aug. 30: city council issues certificate of election to candidates receiving a majority of votes, or orders a run-off election to be held in cases where no candidate receives a majority

Sept. 29: last day to apply for absentee ballot for run-off election

Oct. 3: last day to apply for emergency absentee ballot for run-off election October 4: Run-off Election Day

Oct. 11: city council certifies the results of the run-off election

Nov. 7: newly-elected municipal officials take office
